30/04/2024 Child?s Body Found Experts examining a 1600 year old coffin discovered in Garforth initially identified it as belonging to a woman aged between 25 and 35. Further investigation has revealed that the coffin also contained the remains of a ten year old child.

29/04/2024 Final Bound Garforth advanced to next week?s playoff final thanks to four excellent penalties and a Harry Flatters spot kick save against Rossington. After ninety minutes in a game of few chances and no goals, nothing could separate the sides. Garforth converted all four of their penalties and Harry Flatters pulled off a brilliant spot kick save to send the majority of the 976 crowd wild and Garforth through to next Saturdays final.

28/04/2024 Makin Fined for Assault Chris Makin, 65, of Micklefield was found guilty of an assault of a ?persistent and prolonged nature? and fined him ?4,800 at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday. The assault incident happened on 4th April 2023 when a group of local residents in Church Fenton gathered to try to stop contractors working for Makin ?crowning? trees. Makin was also ordered to pay a ?1,920 surcharge, ?775 costs and ?684 compensation to the victim Mr Mason.

The next contact point will be held on Sunday morning 12th May, between 10am ? 12 noon. Officers look forward to meeting residents to discuss any local issues and community concerns, whilst providing information and advice.

10/09/2016 Local Airport’s Charter Flights Plan The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.

11/12/2012 Chequers To Open on Sundays The Chequers Inn at Ledsham is to open on Sundays for the first time in 180 years. The inn, which dates back to 1540 was banned from serving on Sunday by the lady of the manor after a lady returning from church was verbally abused by drunken farmhands. The landlord has tried to open on a Sunday in the past but the estate owners always refused. However the estate changed hands 5 years ago and the new owners have had a change of heart.
