28/11/2020 Drug Driver Banned
Roman William Jarvis, age 18, of Westfield Lane, Kippax, admitted being over the drug-drive limit for cannabis and was banned from the road for 12 months, fined £200 and told to pay £119 costs at Leeds Magistrates Court.

28/11/2020 Distraction Burglar Warning
West Yorkshire Police have issued a warning about bogus burglars targeting elderly victims in Leeds by distracting the victim, usually by pretending to be Water maintenance workers, saying they need to come in to check the taps or water pressure and then stealing items from rooms inside.

27/11/2020 Welcome to Candy Lane
Pensioners Rod and May Proctor have created a Christmas display outside their home in Garforth after the coronavirus pandemic meant they couldn't decorate the Santa's grotto at their grandchildren's school. The display has turned part of The Crescent in Garforth into the newly named ĎCandy Laneí which attracted nearly 300 visitors over the weekend.

Recent statistics show Leeds city centre now has the lowest Covid case rates - significantly lower than some towns and villages on the outskirts of Leeds. Of the 16 worst hit areas only one is in LS25. Garforth South, Swillington and Little Preston has 33 cases which equates to 486.4 cases per 100,000, making it 13th of the 16 worst hit areas

The appeal by Berkeley Leisure Group against Leeds City Councilís decision to reject an application for a campsite on land off Cliff Top Park in Garforth has been dismissed by the Government Inspector on the grounds of noise and disturbance affecting nearby residents

25/11/2020 Stabbing at Colton
A 25-year-old man remains in a serious condition in hospital after he was stabbed at Colton Retail Park on Saturday evening. Police arrested a 19-year-old in connection with the attack. The teenager has been released on bail and detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting crime reference 13200584241.

Police are investigating a spate of incidents in East Leeds where bus stops and car windows are being smashed . Officers believe someone is driving around villages in East Leeds firing objects at windows using a catapult or BB gun. So far thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused

24/11/2020 Virtual Hillam Lights
Due to COVID-19 Hillam Christmas Lights is different this year. There will be trees up and lights on the Ringtree, but regrettably residents cannot gather in the Square to celebrate. They can instead watch the switch-on live on Hillam News Facebook Saturday 5th December at 6 pm. Also they can send letters to the North Pole via the postbox on the stone wall in the Square.

23/11/2020 Bungalow Burglary
On the 15th November at approximately 8.15pm an elderly couple on Hillam Common Lane were burgled. The thieves gained access at the rear of the bungalow by damaging the surround and the locking system of a secure window. A variety of items have been stolen, along with Royal Air Force documents, one of which was an Royal Air Force Driving Licence. The elderly couple are shaken by this event and are particularly devastated at the loss of the RAF documents from 1956. Items taken include jewellery pieces, a gold plated pocket watch with a chain, and other watches. Enquiries are currently ongoing, including CCTV trawling. Police are appealing for anybody who may have any information that can assist with the investigation to contact 101 and quote 12200201525.

10/09/2016 Local Airportís Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.

11/12/2012 Chequers To Open on Sundays
The Chequers Inn at Ledsham is to open on Sundays for the first time in 180 years. The inn, which dates back to 1540 was banned from serving on Sunday by the lady of the manor after a lady returning from church was verbally abused by drunken farmhands. The landlord has tried to open on a Sunday in the past but the estate owners always refused. However the estate changed hands 5 years ago and the new owners have had a change of heart.
