Garforth Musical Society's spring production is Sister Act. It will be performed at the Welfare Hall, Garforth from Tuesday 23rd April till Saturday 27th April starting at 7.15pm each night. Tickets are ?10 each and are available at SPT school partnership shop in Main Street.

26/03/2024 Collision Closes Road
Emergency services responded to a serious two-vehicle head-on collision on Astley Lane near Swillington at the weekend. The incident caused a complete closure of the road between Allerton Bywater and Swillington, close to the entrance of St. Aidens nature reserve.

Following the armed raid on Monk Fryston Post Office on 19th February the couple who run the business, Karen and Adrian Bullock, have decided to close the post office counter on safety grounds. They will run the village stores as usual, but the post office will shut on Friday 7th June.

Kate Challinor from Kippax is a tattooist running a charity that covers mastectomy scars with floral designs. Charles Bronson, 71, known as the UK's most notorious prisoner, has created a drawing with ink and pencil for Kate to sell, to raise funds for the charity. Bronson made a splash in the art world after he took up art in Wakefield Prison. The Inkredible Foundation is holding a bidding an auction, open to the general public to sell Bronson's work.

23/03/2024 Mr Makin Guilty of Assault
Chris Makin, 65, denied assaulting Andrew Mason, 63, by beating during an altercation on Busk Lane in Church Fenton, near Tadcaster, last April. The businessman was found guilty after a trial at Harrogate Magistrates Court. Sentencing will take place on 23rd April.

The Garforth, Swillington, Kippax, Methley and Villages Neighbourhood Policing Teams will be holding regular community contact points at Garforth Police Station, Lidgett Lane, Garforth LS25 1LJ. The next contact point will be held on Sunday morning 31st March, between 10am ? 12 noon. Officers look forward to meeting residents to discuss any local issues and community concerns, whilst providing information and advice.

10/09/2016 Local Airport’s Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.

Sherburn based bus manufacturer Optare has secured a £3.3 million order for 33 buses from transport giant Stagecoach. The vehicles will be delivered in 2013.

Sherburn in Elmet bus builder Optare has won a £6.2 million contract to build 50 buses for Arriva. Unfortunately none of the new buses will come into service in this part of the country

11/12/2012 Chequers To Open on Sundays
The Chequers Inn at Ledsham is to open on Sundays for the first time in 180 years. The inn, which dates back to 1540 was banned from serving on Sunday by the lady of the manor after a lady returning from church was verbally abused by drunken farmhands. The landlord has tried to open on a Sunday in the past but the estate owners always refused. However the estate changed hands 5 years ago and the new owners have had a change of heart.
