26/01/2022 Crash Closes A64
Police were called at 5.31pm on Monday to reports of a two-vehicle crash. One vehicle ended up in a ditch. The road was closed in both directions between the junctions with the A1(M) and Kiddal Lane, to the north of Aberford and Barwick in Elmet. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police has confirmed that no one was seriously injured in the crash.

25/01/2022 Gimme Shelter
The proposed replacement bus shelter at the bottom of Butt Hill will be installed in about 12 weeks’ time. Kippax PC are in contact with the suppliers regarding if a Defibrillator can be fitted onto the shelter.

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire is urging everyone to take the final opportunity to have their say on the next police budget. A survey was launched earlier this month asking for views on raising the police element of the local council tax. The survey closes at midnight on Tuesday 25th January 2022 and Tracy is asking as many people as possible to feedback. 24/01/2022 More Defibrillators for Kippax
Kippax Parish Council have decided to buy two more defibrillators. Kippax Hall surgery and Gibson Lane surgery are allowing the new Defibrillators to be fitted onto their exterior walls where they will be accessible 24hrs a day.

24/01/2022 What a Spectacle
Garforth Lions have recycling bins for spectacles at Moorhouses and Garforth Library on Main Street and at Gibson Lane Medical Centre and Stocktons on Kippax High Street. If the bins are not on open display, staff will happily take your old glasses and put them in the bin for you.

23/01/2022 To Buy or Not to Buy
Kippax Parish Council are looking at the possibility of buying Kippax Central WMC as a community asset. Once reopened, the intention is that Kippax Central will generate its own income to cover the running costs of the building and also contribute to the repayments of the purchase loans where possible. To fund the purchase the parish council is proposing an increase in precept of £10.40 per annum. They are conducting a survey to determine local feeling for the project.

Garforth Town came out on top 3-1 against Hemsworth at the Bannister Prentice Stadium on Friday evening. Hemsworth had a player sent off, but Charlie Marshall, Jamie Barkway and Joe Colley were the players that earned Garforth three points and made it two wins on the trot.

22/01/2022 Stolen Bikes Recovered
At the beginning of December 2021, Officers from Inner East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Team seized a large quantity of bicycles from a premise in the Burmantofts and Richmond Hill ward. Officers suspect the bicycles to be stolen, a total of six have been identified to date as stolen and the owners have been appraised of their recovery. Inner East Leeds NPT still have several bicycles, which they need to identify the owners of. 21/01/2022 20 MPH Defeat
Calls to introduce a default 20mph speed limit in built-up areas across North Yorkshire have again been unanimously dismissed. A meeting of North Yorkshire County Council’s executive saw a series of changes to the authority’s 20mph policy and agreement among all the leading councillors that a targeted approach to low speed zones be continued as a blanket approach could cost up to £12m to introduce, leading to a council tax hike.

10/09/2016 Local Airport’s Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.

11/12/2012 Chequers To Open on Sundays
The Chequers Inn at Ledsham is to open on Sundays for the first time in 180 years. The inn, which dates back to 1540 was banned from serving on Sunday by the lady of the manor after a lady returning from church was verbally abused by drunken farmhands. The landlord has tried to open on a Sunday in the past but the estate owners always refused. However the estate changed hands 5 years ago and the new owners have had a change of heart.
