Garforth based Cafe2U is making the switch to electric vehicles as part of its goal to become the UKís first carbon neutral coffee company. The company will change its fleet of almost 100 vehicles to electric over the next five years.

Yorkshire Water has donated 3 water butts to Incredible Edible South Milford so that volunteers can collect rainwater to use on community vegetable beds

East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Team are supporting Bike to School Week, which is a week-long event across the UK from 27th September to 1st October to encourage families to cycle and scoot to school. Avoid traffic congestion, parking issues and encourage children to bike or scoot to school this week where suitable and safe to do so.

27/09/2021 Miners Progress in FA Vase
Garforth progressed to the first round of the Buildbase FA Vase for the first time in three years with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Garstang on Saturday. First half goals from Alex Burton and Kevin Terhaerdt were added to by strikes from Jed Zanos and James Burgess in the second period to round off a comfortable victory. The first round draw will take place on Monday 27th September at 1pm

Gracie May Coe from South Milford and her friends are walking the Yorkshire coast to raise money for Blood Cancer UK in memory of her dad David who died of leukaemia aged 50. Donations are collected via a GoFundMe page.

25/09/2021 Holiday Inn Selected by Government
Leeds City Council have revealed that the selection of the Holiday Inn to house Afghan refugees was a Government decision and the Council were not consulted on the matter. Officers of the Council have met with the Home Office to understand what support will need to be put in place. The Holiday Inn has said that they are not set up to receive donations from the general public at this time

24/09/2021 Council Cancels its Bonfire and Fireworks Events
Leeds City Councilís six annual bonfire and firework events will unfortunately not be taking place this year. This follows guidance issued by national government when restrictions were eased in July 2021 that particularly relate to large gatherings at outdoor events including firework displays.

22/09/2021 Police Find Body in Search for Sarah Cromwell
West Yorkshire Police have said that a body has been found in the search for missing Sarah Cromwell. Sarah, 36, was first reported missing on Friday, September 17, after she was last seen at her home in Swillington, Leeds. The family of Sarah have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. There are no suspicious circumstances at this time.

10/09/2016 Local Airportís Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.

Sherburn in Elmet bus builder Optare has won a £6.2 million contract to build 50 buses for Arriva. Unfortunately none of the new buses will come into service in this part of the country

11/12/2012 Chequers To Open on Sundays
The Chequers Inn at Ledsham is to open on Sundays for the first time in 180 years. The inn, which dates back to 1540 was banned from serving on Sunday by the lady of the manor after a lady returning from church was verbally abused by drunken farmhands. The landlord has tried to open on a Sunday in the past but the estate owners always refused. However the estate changed hands 5 years ago and the new owners have had a change of heart.
