22/04/2021 Camping Stalker Jailed
A stalker who pitched a tent in his victim's garden in Kippax as he traumatised her for more than two years has been sent to prison. Robert Biddle was jailed for 30 months after a court heard how the woman suffered psychological injuries over his obsession for her. At one point he even pitched a tent in her garden and spent the night in it.

21/04/2021 Kippax Garden Set Afire
Fire crews were called to a family home in Woodland Grove, Kippax after the garden was engulfed in flames on Monday evening. The incident has been reported to the police as suspected arson attack by local teenagers.

21/04/2021 Suspicious Vehicle Caught
On Friday evening Selby response officers responded to a report of suspicious circumstances involving a white Ford Transit van in the Riccall area. The vehicle was subsequently seized due to having no insurance. It is believed that the vehicle involved has been reported heavily across the area for other suspicious ongoings. Residents are assured this vehicle is no longer on the roads.

South Milford Cricket Club started the 2021 season this weekend with friendlies at Church Fenton Cricket Club and Ledsham Cricket Club. They would like to remind supporters that unfortunately spectators are not allowed currently at cricket matches. They hope this will be lifted on the 17th May.

19/04/2021 Covid Outbreak at Sherburn Sorting Ofice
There has been a positive case of Covid at Sherburn Delivery Office resulting in over half of Royal Mail staff having to go into 10-day isolation. Remaining staff are working hard to maintain the service but warn there will be inevitable delays.

In Garforth East 4,038 people have received their first dose of a Covid vaccine. That is 63.5 percent of the people living in the area.

An accountant who committed “industrial scale dishonesty” to fund an extravagant lifestyle has been jailed for 11 years and five months at Leeds Crown Court. Stephen Day, 51, whose homes included a house in Aberford, a 45-acre estate in Scotland and a holiday home in South Africa, plundered more than £1.4 million from several companies, defrauding three NHS organisations he secretly worked for at the same time.

17/04/2021 Fire at Makin’s Farm
Seven fire engines from Pontefract, Wetherby, Moortown, Normanton, Garforth, Castleford and Killingbeck stations and a helicopter attended a field fire at Makin’s Farm off Ridge Road in Garforth on Friday afternoon. The fire started around 12.30pm and the incident was scaled back around 4pm when five of the appliances left the scene.

West Yorkshire Police's Wildlife and Rural Crime unit has had a busy week, with a number of animal-related incidents reported across the county including unknown persons digging out a badger sett in Kippax and starting a fire. The Wildlife and Rural Crime unit urged anyone with information about this incident to get in touch, or to call Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.

10/09/2016 Local Airport’s Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.

11/12/2012 Chequers To Open on Sundays
The Chequers Inn at Ledsham is to open on Sundays for the first time in 180 years. The inn, which dates back to 1540 was banned from serving on Sunday by the lady of the manor after a lady returning from church was verbally abused by drunken farmhands. The landlord has tried to open on a Sunday in the past but the estate owners always refused. However the estate changed hands 5 years ago and the new owners have had a change of heart.
