29/11/2021 Christmas Foodbank Collections
The next three Food Bank Collections at St Mary’s Garforth will be: Monday 29th November, Monday 13th December and Monday 10th January. Food should be delivered either to the collection point, from 2pm-3pm in the Church Car Park, or may be dropped off to The Rectory and left in the box in the porch.

29/11/2021 Christmas Concert
Knottingley Silver Band will be performing a Christmas Concert at All Saints Church in Sherburn on Saturday 11th December 2021 at 7pm. Tickets are £10.00 which includes wine and nibbles. Tickets are available from Caroline on 07775 868189 or on the door.

28/11/2021 The Snow Dancer
The Snow Dancer by Badapple Theatre will be performed on Saturday 4th December at 7:30pm at The Old Girls’ School Community Centre in Sherburn. This fairy tale with plenty of laughs and songs along the way, in an original festive theatre show is guaranteed to delight the whole family. (For ages 5 to 95!) Lemon Jelly Pantos’ Mother Goose comes to Garforth Miners Welfare Hall on Saturday 4th December at 3pm and 5pm. Tickets £10 adults and £8 children.

Garforth Lions’ Santa returns this year. He will be attending the Christmas Lights Switch-On on Main Street on Friday 26th November and then begin his annual visit to the streets of Barwick, Allerton Bywater, Kippax, Great and Little Preston, Scholes, Swillington, and Garforth over the following 4 weeks. The Annual Squires Toy Run to Easingwold for local kids charities takes place Sunday 28th November. Fancy dress wearing is absolutely welcome. A suggested donation of £5.00 or a new unwrapped toy is required from participants and anyone else who cares to make a donation.

25/11/2021 School Gym Reopens
On Tuesday 9th November, Sherburn High School had a grand opening event for their new gym facility. Governors, Trust senior leaders, local Counsellors and sports groups who helped with fundraising were invited to the event that marked the official re-opening of the school’s gym facility after the old gym burnt down over three years ago.

24/11/2021 Speed Checks
On the 19th November 2021, PCSO’s from Outer East Leeds NPT conducted speed checks on Bullerthorpe Lane and Newsam Green Road. The checks were conducted following community complaints, regarding vehicles speeding in the area. PCSO’s spoke with residents whilst present, who were pleased to see them acting on the reports made. No vehicles were found speeding at the time of the checks.

22/11/2021 Kippax Lights Road Closures
High Street and Hall Approach in Kippax will be closed to traffic on Thursday 25th November from 4pm to 8.30pm for the Christmas Lights switch on. Bus services 163 and 166 will be diverting via Cross Hills and Leeds Road.

10/09/2016 Local Airport’s Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.

Sherburn based bus manufacturer Optare has secured a £3.3 million order for 33 buses from transport giant Stagecoach. The vehicles will be delivered in 2013.

Sherburn in Elmet bus builder Optare has won a £6.2 million contract to build 50 buses for Arriva. Unfortunately none of the new buses will come into service in this part of the country

11/12/2012 Chequers To Open on Sundays
The Chequers Inn at Ledsham is to open on Sundays for the first time in 180 years. The inn, which dates back to 1540 was banned from serving on Sunday by the lady of the manor after a lady returning from church was verbally abused by drunken farmhands. The landlord has tried to open on a Sunday in the past but the estate owners always refused. However the estate changed hands 5 years ago and the new owners have had a change of heart.

The Aagrah restaurant in Garforth is one of a hundred restaurants nationally that have been shortlisted for the 2012 British Curry Awards.
